Ta Moko / Kurituhi

INFO:

Ta Moko is a Traditional Maori Tattoo, it is traditionally performed with broad toothed combs (Uhi Tā Moko). In present day most Tā Moko artists use regular sterilised tattoo needles for the process. As tradition blends with the present, these symbols can be worn by all, ( Tā Moko for Maori, Kurituhi for all others) with special pride and personal meaning. International travellers intrigued with our country and culture are often are frequent clients, compelled to take home the permanent new Zealand experience. To offer the most comprehensive information of Maori tattooing, we have spoken and studied with, Maori carvers, weavers, anthropologists and historians . Your initial consultation contains a brief history and modern day analysis of this art form. We can assist in developing a personalised, custom tattoo designed with a contemporary style. At the end of the procedure you receive a interpretive notes of how the composition and symbols relate to your own personal story. The following portfolio is just a small example of some of the work we have created in our studio for clients both local and abroad.
"Elton has a deeper understanding of the significance that when he marks our tinana (body) with ink, that every line speaks of our whakapapa.
Through the skill and mastery that Elton possesses he has adorned myself and my 3 son's with a taonga (treasure). Ta Moko that we wear with pride, our way of ensuring that our whakapapa, hitori (history) and Tipuna (ancestors) are respected and kept alive. "
