AFTERCARE:

Globus Tattoo offers expert aftercare advice. We go over this with you immediately following your tattoo. We strongly suggest book marking this page for your reference during your healing time, a new tattoo is effectively an open wound, which requires proper care & attention by you.
1. Remove bandage any time after an hour but within 6 hours, and wash gently with warm water & soap, and gently pat dry. 2. Wash off any dried blood in the first 24 hours, or if your tattoo is a bit weepy for a couple of days, then just keep gently removing any build up of dried blood.
Dark red scabs are not scabs they are dried blood/plasma -Do not re bandage or wrap in any way unless we have discussed this with you and if we have, Kellyrae will provide it in writing the same day. -Allow the tattoo to air out as often as possible, so that means to receive oxygen, to be allowed to circulate, and for the healing skin to breathe.3. Wash lightly once or twice a day, no soap, and gently pat dry, for the entire healing time.
4. Once a white scab /crust has formed, and it is dried out, this is when to begin applying the balm. This could take 2 days or up to 5 days before you apply the balm. Do not apply in the first 48 hours -Do not apply the balm if the tattoo is weeping it is requiring more time to dry. Some tattoos can be hot and bothered especially in the elbow crease or if it is a cover up. A hot and bothered tattoo that is still seeping a bit of moisture does not need any bee balm until that process has stopped. -When you do apply the balm, do so sparingly, once or twice per day, morning and/or evening.
-Dab off any excess bee balm gently with tissues or paper towel, this ensures you have not put on too much. Too much balm can cause the tattoo to weep, or it can soften the scab and premature removal can result in loss of ink. 5. Repeat this process until the tattoo is completely healed 5-14 days on average. 6. Wear loose cotton clothing (or other breathable fabric) over the tattoo as it heals if you need to protect it from the sun or environment. If at any point your tattoo scab sticks to the material, get the fabric soaking wet and gently peel, releasing the fabric from the scab, slowly, in a rolling manner.
Be especially mindful at night as you can easily stick to the sheet better to wear a shirt or something you can take with you to the shower to peel it off wet.
  • Chemical environments can aggravate a healing tattoo taking it longer to heal.
  • different areas of the body take different lengths of time to heal.
  • Colour tattoos take longer to heal than black only.
  • Cover ups take longer than colour tattoos.

Important Risks to consider:

  • Tattoos are at your own risk
  • Skin, environment, health, medications, stress, and other exposures can all play a part in the outcome of a tattoo.
  • Areas of high risk are: fingers, back of the ear, side of the feet, achilles heel, hands, aged or thin skin, Aged or thin skin. Skin that has had considerable weight gain and weight loss.
  • Do not get tattooed if you are pregnant
  • Do not expose your healing tattoo to sun, salt water, thermal water that has bacteria in it, dirty clothes, chemicals, dirt, dust, or creams and products other than those we recommended.
  • Areas of high risk are fingers, hands, palms, side and bottoms of the feet, throats, and back of ears, elbows, elbow creases, and all areas of natural creasing. Aged or thin skin. Skin that has had considerable weight gain and weight loss. Skin with stretch-marks, or known skin issues such as but not limited to, eczema or acne. Are all at a high or higher risk of ink loss, and this is your risk to take.
  • We tattoo these areas with the same level of accuracy as other places on the body however, this type of skin can be problematic. They may not heal well, due to crease movement, the oily nature of the skin, etc...

  • All tattoos are at your own risk. *Please note Ink can spread out under the skin and there is no way to know if this will happen or not

The Healing Process:

THE HEALING PROCESSYour tattoo will form a scab, similar to a graze. The amount of scabbing and length of healing time will vary from person to person as well as the style of the tattoo. On average, tattoos take 3 - 5 days for outline only & black shaded tattoos. Full colour tattoos on average are 7 -10 /14 days. Cover ups over existing tattoo’s generally scab heavier, and take slightly longer to heal. Some tattoos can take up to two months to completely heal. Atmosphere and exposure can play a big part in healing time. Toxic atmospheres can aggravate a healing tattoo, prolonging the healing process. Plaster, saw dust, paint, fertiliser, industrial chemicals, and excess heat, are all examples of a harsh or toxic environment that could prolong healing and increase the risk of infection. High humidity and very hot weather can also aggravate or prolong healing. Illness or high stress can affect the healing experience and outcome. If you work in such an environment please be aware of the extra risks and responsibilities and discuss with Elton or Kellyrae as we will give specific after care for each type of job risk.
Note: Tattoos have a wide range of healing reactions depending on sensitivity of the person, general health, environment, medication you may be on, and even sensitivities if you dye your hair.
Tattoo’s can swell, have slight inflammation, have tissue bruising, and /or cause general discomfort as a sensitive reaction. This does not mean it is infected please send us a photo, call, email, text us if you have any concerns.
Most tattoos feel similar to sunburn for a very short time, and not much more discomfort than that for a few hours, or a day or two. If your tattoo looks red, weepy, or sick, these could be signs of irritation, or infection, use your common sense if you feel unsure contact us! Do not hesitate to call us, or go to a physician if you have any concerns. Very rarely do allergic reactions occur. Leg tattoos can hurt for a while and take longer to heal if you work on your feet all day/night. Elevate your feet/legs as often as possible to ease this.

These are the things you SHOULD NOT do or expose your healing tattoo to:

*Sun beds or tanning creams *direct sun exposure on the tattoo *hot pools, mud baths, sauna’s
*Ocean swimming, diving or activities that could soak, steam, rub or damage the scab (until fully healed)
* Do not pick, scratch or pull the scab *Do not over stretch the scab through exercise or activity. *Do not smother the tattoo with tight clothing. *Do not let others touch your tattoo with their dirty hands *Do not wear dirty or sweat filled clothes over the healing tattoo *Do not touch it other than to gently clean or apply the aftercare balm, until it is fully healed.
*Medication can affect the healing of a tattoo, especially antibiotics, and can result in ink loss.We provide expert application, professional grade sterile materials and quality information.
We take all the appropriate care on our end and the rest is up to you.
The healing of a tattoo is not guaranteed, as many things that you are in contact with can affect the end result as well as your own body's ability to accept the ink.We are not medical professionals and make no claims that any of our advice is guaranteed.
Use your common sense and take responsibility for your tattoo’s aftercare.
Infection is extremely rare and is usually a result of ignoring aftercare instructions OR hazards after being tattooed that have injured or contaminated the open wound.
Please be sure you understand our recommendations and ask for clarity if you do not.
